Lisbon Culture - In June the streets are decorated for the festival of Saint Anthony June 12th. There are street parties all over town and the party goes on all night. Here in the Alfama are some of the best street events.
Mariza is hugely popular in Lisbon. She has a tremendous prescence as well as a fantastic voice and the concerts in her home town are always special.

Galeria Galveias showing the work of Lisbon artist Margarida CepedaNovember promises to be something special in 2009 with several big events Arte Lisboa 09 - An art event with special exhibitions showing the talent of Portuguese and International artists in 60 galleries across the city. The Chiado and Principe Real are good places to start exploring the galleries. The Art scene is a flourishing part of Lisbon culture. One of the highlights of the city are the small galleries as well as the Gulbenkian and the new Paula Regoo museum in nearby Cascais. Festival Temps D' Images. A huge multi disciplinary Festival focusing on Art images which the organisers say will transform Lisbon itself into a huge stage. Events at The Centro Cultural de Belem, Cinemateca, Culturgest, in fact everywhere that is anywhere in the Lisbon Art scene. This could be really exciting. Estoril Film Festival - a really fantastic International Film Festival in 2009 Francis Ford Coppola and David Cronenberg are guests. Luzboa lighting and urban art festival. Check out the historic buildings which are lit up to spectacular effect at night.
December
Christmas starts late - at the end of November. In December there are great concerts all over town. Many of them held outdoors. Choirs from all over the city perform in historic settings. The Chiado is often the venue for Xmas events. The Christmas atmosphere in the city is really special.
January
Noite Magica The new year Celebrations in Lisbon go on throughout the night. There are events in each city village. One of the biggest events is at the Torre de Belem where there is huge party with Fireworks a light show, and a disco with dancing throughout the night.
February
February is carnival time. There are parades all over the city with everyone dressing up in crazy costumes. Children love this festival.Lisbon Fado festival - great singers, great music - events all over the city. One of the highlights of the year.
March
Lisbon half marathon sporting event.Lisbon fashion week - autumn collection for 2010.
April
Dias de Musica Non stop music in the Centro Cultural de Belem Indie Film Festival at Cinemas all over the City. April 25th is the day to celebrate Liberation from fascism in the carnation revolution 1974. Music events and parties - the celebrations are particularly authentic in front of the Carmo Monastery where the revolution began. A highlight of Lisbon Culture and a mile stone in the Culture of Portugal. see

Lisbon downhill _ amazing cycling event with competitors hurtling down the narrow Alfama alleys. Great party atmosphere.Rock in Rio Lisboa One of the cities big rock events with international rock bands. From May 21st to 28th 2010. Dance festival Ola Love with international DJs and parties over town. Alkantara Festival of Theatre and Dance from 22 May to June 8th.

The Saint Anthony Festivals on June 12th see weddings during the day and fantastic street parties at night. If you want to see Lisbon at it's most flamboyant and extrovert these are the days to visit.Gay Pride festival June 28th. Lisbon Book Fair in Edward V11 gardens with events for adults and children. Castle Innovation in Design Festival and Market. There are also Fado concerts throughout the month at the Castle. Usually Mariza and Christina Branco will be singing. See

July
Super Bock Super Rock festival rivals rock in Rio as the rock music event in Portugal with concerts in Lisbon and Porto. Last year The killers headlined in Lisbon.Sintra Music festival - Classical concerts in romantic settings in this lovely town just outside Lisbon. Very special. Almada Theatre Festival. A major Theatre festival in Almada just over the river from Lisbon. The left wing council of this vibrant town have transformed it in recent years - it now has a great reputation in Portugal and beyond.

Jazz em Agosto - Jazz festival at the beautiful Gulbenkian Museum and Gardens. The first two weeks of August with a programme of International Jazz stars.

September, October and June are the most crowded months for events.Motel x in early September horror film festival. Experimenta design Bi annual design festival with events all over the city. Lisbon village festival - Digital Art, Film music with events all over the city. Queer Lisboa Gay and Lesbian Film Festival with events in several cinemas across town.
